Noisy mufflers seized

KALIBO, Aklan – One hundred seventy motorcycle­s were apprehende­d for having modified mufflers in the first three months of the y ear.

Most of them ( 91) were seized in February, data from the municipal police station showed.

Sixty-eight were apprehende­d in March and 11 in January.

Modified and noisy mufflers must be confiscate­d, Municipal Ordinance No. 2016-003 stated.

Erring drivers shall be fined P2,500 and required to reinstall the factory-manufactur­ed and-installed muffler.

Defective mufflers must be destroyed under Section 9.

The ordinance also prohibits vehicle stores or any establishm­ent from installing or using modified mufflers.

Violators will be fined P1,500 on first offense and P2,500 on second offense.

ANTI- COLORUM (without franchise) passenger tricycles were impounded from January to March.

At least 2,998 tricycles legally operate in this capital town as of March.

Most of the impounded tricycles ( 93) were caught in February, police said.

Twenty-five were impounded in March and 18 in January.

Those apprehende­d violated Municipal Ordinance No. 2013- 11 and Municipal Ordinance No. 2005- 044, or the Traffic Code of the Municipali­ty of Kalibo.

Chief Inspector Terence Sta. Ana, municipal police head, urged passengers to avoid colorum tricycles. (
