Ma complains vs Bacolod teacher

-  By Mae Singuay

BACOLOD City – A mother of a female Grade 10 student lodged a complaint against a male teacher in Fr. Gratian Murray Integrated School in Barangay Granada for allegedly letting his students sleep in his house.

Emelyn Pagunsan sensed something fishy was going on between her 16- year- old daughter and their Science and Citizenship Advancement Training teacher.

On Tuesday Pagunsan told the press her daughter failed to return home from March 3 to 5. It turned out the latter and her two classmates stayed in their teacher’s house in Charito Heights Subdivision, the mother said.

Pagunsan asked Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Bacolod City superintendent Cynthia Demavivas t o investigate the teacher and penalize him.

“My daughter went to school on March 3, a Friday, but did not return home,” the mother wrote Demavivas in Hiligaynon on March 23. “We had a hard time looking for her. I asked her classmates for her whereabouts. One of them told me my daughter slept in their male teacher’s house in Charito Heights.”

On March 6, Pagunsan said she and the grandmother of another student who was with her daughter went to Principal Dionisio Lindogan to complain.

“We were not informed whether or not the principal acted on our complaint,” said Pagunsan. “We were dismayed. It seemed like our complaint against the teacher under his watch was not a big deal. So we went to the DepEd superintendent.”

Pagunsan said the teacher admitted her daughter and other students slept in his house.

She said the teacher also sent her husband Roderick a text message asking them to settle the matter and prevent the issue from reaching the DepEd.

Pagunsan’s daughter went home on March 6.

The 16- year- old student admitted sleeping i n her teacher’s house with her other classmates but denied doing anything suspicious.

All she said was their teacher “touched” her (“

lang”) and would kiss her classmate on the Ginhikap-hikapforehead.

According to the student, she only stayed in her teacher’s house upon the advice of her classmate after she and her father fought and the latter told her not to come back home anymore./
