THERE is a coherent relationship between technology and teenage pregnancy. Technology is one main factor why there is an increase in the population of pregnant teenagers. Just two nights ago on national television, it was scored that about 10 percent more teenagers have become pregnant in this first quarter of the year. Teenage pregnancy can be a result of many other pertinent factors but technology is one contributing.

With teenagers having pronounced accessibility on technology from television, gadgets, applications, and the internet, teenagers are prone to information, visuals and audio that introduce them to the world of pornography, to the world that it is not yet allowed for them, and that their young minds still cannot fully decipher. Because this is the age of advanced technology and old ones like television, radio and other audio becomes ordinary and common, if parents or any elders are not present at home, or beside their children, then they will succumb to watching and listening to anything that will satisfy their curiosity, and it may include

pornography, sexuality and immorality.

In this age of advanced technology, there are new technologies such as phone or mobile gadgets, internet and social media that will make a teenager wonder, and will make him/her tinker on it when he/she has any access. The problem with technology these days is that it does not take any responsibility on what it can provide the public other the regulatory measures and monitoring that is a sole responsibility of another independent body.

The purpose of technology provider

is to only provide technology depending on the needs of the society. Mostly, it is for the convenience, for innovation and for development. It usually looked into what it can contribute to the society and to the people more than what it can harm and endanger. The latter challenges are envisioned and are expected to lie on the shoulders of the independent body that monitors this technological advancement. And, the monitoring engulfs all aspects including morals, social, emotional and physical dimensions.

If only technologies are properly monitored in the same way that parents and even teachers will discipline, reprimand their children or their students when necessary, and have a close communication with them, teenage pregnancy will be avoided. Given the alarming increase of teenage pregnancy cases, the society needs to ponder deeply and decide on whether to institutionalize the incorporation of sex education at school. As it is found feasible in other countries, this is seen to help reduce teenage pregnancy. (
