Taxi driver foils robber

ILOILO City – A taxi driver foiled a passenger who tried to rob him in Barangay San Isidro, Jaro district before dawn yesterday.

According to 39- year- old Franklin Cabagua, driver of Light of Glory taxi, the stunned robber ran away but he would surely recognize the culprit should he see him again.

Cabaguan, a resident of Barangay Baguingin Lanot,

Alimodian, Iloilo, immediatel­y reported the robbery attempt to the Jaro police station.

He picked up his passenger at the Ceres bus terminal in Barangay Camalig, Jaro around 1 a.m., he told the police.

The passenger asked to be Jaro near Central Philippine University.

According to Cabaguan, the man, around 5’2” in height, was wearing a white t-shirt and a pair of jeans.

Upon reaching Barangay San Isidro, the passenger declared a with a .38 handgun.

Undaunted, Cabaguan – who at 5’7” was bigger and taller than the suspect – wrestled the gun from his passenger.

The man fled after losing his gun to the taxi driver, said Inspector Ronaldo Amihan, Jaro police chief./
