ILOILO City – The city government formed a river patrol team to monitor the Iloilo River and its “sister” Batiano River.

There is a need to monitor, among others, the water quality of the rivers, illegal cutting of mangroves, proliferation of illegal settlements, encroachments and non- compliant fishing methods, explained Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.

The Iloilo River is actually an estuary. It starts in Oton, Iloilo at Batian River, which is also an estuary, then traverses through the Iloilo City districts of Lapuz, La Paz, Mandurriao, Molo, Arevalo, and the City Proper, before emptying into the Iloilo Strait.
