NOHS classes to open despite strike

- By Mae Singuay

BACOLOD City – Classes at Negros Occidental High School (NOHS) will start even with the scheduled transport strike on June 5 and 6, the principal said.

Classes will go on but students who will not be able to reach school due to the temporary suspension of public utility jeepney trips will be excused, Mario Amaca told the press.

“It is beyond my capacity to suspend classes,” Amaca stressed. “Only the DepEd ( Department of Education) regional director or  Mayor Evelio Leonardia can declare the suspension of classes.”

The NOHS’ teaching staff will also be required to report to work and hold classes for students who are able to reach school.

But the DepEd regional director appears clueless regarding the planned transport strike.

Gilbert Sadsad said in a text message he has not yet issued any directive to school officials relative to the strike.

“We’ve not received yet any news about  a strike,” he said. “If ever (there is one), then we will study first the concentration meron of the strike
