Iloilo City vies for DILG Seal of Good Governance

-

ILOILO City – The city government is once again vying for the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s ( DILG) Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG).

Should the city government pass the regional validation, it will be elevated to the national level.

Validators f rom DILG visited this city on May 23.

Under the new criteria, LGUs should be able to pass all the core areas and at least one essential area in order to be a recipient of the SGLG award.

The core areas included Financial Administration, Disaster Preparedness, Social Protection, and Peace and Order.

The es s e nti a l were Business- Fri e ndliness a nd Competitiveness, Environmental Protection, and Tourism, Arts and Culture.

“For the national validation, the validators need not to validate all the documents passed during the regional. They will only look at the areas which are doubtful,” said City DILG head Atty. Ferdinand Panes.

He expressed confidence that the city government will once again bag the SGLG award.

“The city government was able to get the SGLG award last year and there is no reason that they will not get it this year,” said Panes.

SGLG recipients were awarded with SGLG seal and Performance Challenge Fund ( PCF) incentives. Iloilo City recently received the P3.4- million PCF.

The regional validators included DILG- 6 assistant regional director Maria Sardua and representatives from non- government organizations.

Aside from scrutinizing the documents passed by department heads, validators also inspected the city’s maternity clinic and full disclosure policy portal. PIO/ PN)
