DPWH to start Bacolod City plaza rehab in July

BACOLOD City-The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is eyeing to start the rehabilita­tion of the Bacolod City public plaza in July.

On Wednesday, the Sanggunian­g Panlungsod already approved a resolution allowing the implementa­tion of the project.

Cong. Greg Gasataya said the project needs to be finished by end of September this year.

“So by the first week of July, the rehabilita­tion will probably start after the DPWH has awarded the winning contractor,” he said, adding that the bidding already started this week.

The DPWH national office has allocated P10 million from its 2017 budget for the rehabilita­tion project.

Meanwhile, Mayor Evelio Leonardia earlier said Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri initially pledged P10 million for the beautifica­tion and renovation of the public plaza and other places of interest in Bacolod City.

Recently, the senator told the mayor that he will facilitate more in next year’s budget.

The mayor hopes that the beautifica­tion and renovation of the plaza will be finished in time for the MassKara Festival in October.

At the same time, the city government is also implementi­ng a P5-million project to renovate t he c omfort r ooms a nd administra­tive office in the plaza for this year’s festival.

Leonardia also advised Gasataya and the DPWH to focus on the park’s lighting, fountains, and benches./
