Cignal HD turns back Petron in Superliga

MANILA – Cignal HD Spikers recovered from a set down to score a 11- 25, 25- 23, 29- 27, 26- 24 win over Petron Blaze Spikers in the 2017 Philippine Superliga All- Filipino Conference at the San Juan Arena.

On Thursday night, Honey Royce Tubino led the way with 16 points for HD Spikers, which recovered from its first defeat this conference to Foton Tornadoes to improve to 4-1 win-loss slate in Pool C.

Guimaras- native Jovelyn Gonzaga and Rachel Anne Daquis added 14 points each, while Maica Morada and Cherry Vivas contribute­d eight points each for HD Spikers, which is one of the title favorites team this season.

After losing the opening set, HD Spikers was into tight exchange with Blaze Spikers early in the second set until the former pulled away late in the period on clutch hits by Gonzaga.

Just like in the second set, both teams were engaged in a tight exchange in the third set with several deadlocks with last at 27-all.

Back- to- back hits from Tubino clinched the set for HD Spikers.

Blaze Spikers came out strong in the fourth set and was ahead by as much as four points before HD Spikers responded with its own rally for a 24-all score. Conversion­s from Morada and Gonzaga completed HD Spikers’ triumph. “t endency
