BACOLOD City – A suspected thief was shot dead by a security guard on Sunday evening in Barangay Bata in this city.

The still unidentified victim allegedly tried to steal plates and batteries from a Ceres bus, prompting security guard Rhomel Melos Santero, 28, to shoot him.

Santero, a resident of Barangay Lag- asan in Bago City, was assigned at the Ceres terminal in the barangay.

He said he was on roving patrol when he saw the suspected thief, together with three companions, trying to steal the items.

One of them even pointed a gun at him, prompting him to fire his .9mm pistol with Serial Number RIA 1625983, Santero explained.

The victim, who sustained a gunshot wound on his right buttock, was rushed by the Amity Rescue team to the hospital but was declared dead around 10:15 p.m.

Santero surrendered his firearm to Police Station 3.

Detained, he is waiting for the identification of the victim for possible filing of charges against him./
