Student leaders empowered for conservation
FIFTY student leaders actively participated in the conduct of the 2nd Eco-Summer Camp 2017 at THE Igang Bay Marine Sanctuary and John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University ( JBLFMU) Eco-Park, Igang, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras recently.
The Eco-Summer Camp is an activity under the Coastal and Marine Ecosystems Management Program (CMEMP) on Citizenry Science mandated by DENR Administrative Order 2016-16 which aims to “Enhance the formulation of positive values among stakeholders including the youth through shared responsibilities in sustainable management of coastal and marine resources and habitat.”
Topics related to the fundamentals of marine protected areas, ocean processes and mangroves were discussed to instill among the youth the urgency and necessity to take action in the protection and conservation of our coastal and marine resources.
“Let us continue to initiate activities which shall increase the awareness and knowledge of the youth on environmental issues. They are the hope of our nation. We must hone them to become stewards of the environment,” said regional director Jim Sampulna.
The activity was spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-PENRO) Guimaras in collaboration with John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University, and Earthing.Ph/
