In WV it literally pays to reach 100 years old

-

ILOILO City – Before this month ends, 85 centenarians from across Western Visayas would have received P100 thousand each as incentive.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 6 is currently processing the documents needed for the disbursement of the cash incentives, said Judith Tanate, DSWD-6 focal person for persons with disabilities and older persons.

Section 2 of Republic Act 10868 (Centenarians Act of 2016) mandates that Filipinos who have reached the age of 100 years old shall be honored with a cash gift of P100 thousand each plus a letter of felicitation from the President of the Philippines.

The 85 centenarians are among the 360 centenarian- beneficiaries in Region 6.

DSWD allotted a total of P36 million for the cash incentives of all centenarians in the region.

Since April when the distribution of cash incentives started, DSWD already disbursed P26.2 million for 262 centenarians.

DSWD hoped to complete the distribution of the money to all the centenarians by August.

Tanate appealed to all Ilonggos turning centenarians this year to submit the required documents to their city or municipal social welfare and development office. These include the original copy of the birth certificate.

If the birth certificate is not available, the department could accept primary identification cards like the senior citizen’s identification card or any other Philippine government-issued identification card indicating the citizenship and birth date of the individual.

Tanate said DSWD- 6 have so far received from city or municipal social welfare and development offices documents from 10 individuals turning 100 years old this year.

Other alternative documents are baptismal or confirmation records, marriage certificate, old school documents, birth certificate of children, or an affidavit executed by at least two disinterested persons at least 80 years old with personal knowledge of the centenarian’s actual age or date of birth.
