PN MANILA – Kaya- Makati

n rt broke away in the second half to score a stunning 2-0 victory over JP Voltes-Marikina in the Philippines Football League at the University of Makati Gym.

Jordan Mintah and Robert Lopez Mendy scored a goal each for Kaya, which scored its second consecutive win on Sunday night after defeating Davao Aguilas, 5-1, last week.

“I am glad that my players performed well against a tough team like JP Voltes,” said Kaya head coach Noel Marcaida. “I think our players held them well and we were able to score in the second half.”

With both teams held scoreless in the first half, Kaya drew first blood in the second half as Mintah drained a shot that ricocheted off the post in the 60th minute.

JP Voltes had chances to tie but failed to launch a decent attack. Kaya was able to double the lead 20 minutes later as Lopez Mendy was left with a wide opening for a long-range hit.

Kaya moved up to third place in the standings with 20 points, on six wins, two draws and three losses, while JP Voltes slid to fifth place with 18 points.

At the Quirino Stadium in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, Ilonggo Jan Jesus Melliza scored a game- tying goal as Stallion-Laguna forced a 1-1 draw with Ilocos United.

Due to “abandoned field conditions,” the league ended the match at the half.

Stallion-Laguna and Ilocos United were at seventh and eighth places, respectively, in the standings./
