‘Sikad Kontra Droga’ in Iloilo City on Aug. 12

ILOILO City – Hundreds of cycling enthusiast­s are expected to join the “Sikad Kontra Droga” on Aug. 12.

This a public awareness activity in line with the Iloilo City Police Office’s (ICPO) campaign against illegal drugs, according to Senior Inspector Shella Mae Sangrines, city police spokespers­on.

This is the second “Sikad Kontra Droga” of the ICPO. The first was held on Dec. 11, 2016.

Sangrines said the 29-kilometer “fun cycling” will start early in the morning at Plaza Libertad in City Proper and end at the public plaza of La Paz district

Free t-shirts and key chains will be given to early registrant­s.

“We enjoin the public to support our campaign against drug traffickin­g because this is everybody’s concern. We have to work hand in hand to eradicate illegal drugs,” said Sangrines.

The Philippine Drug Enforcemen­t Agency( PD EA) in Region 6 has extended the deadline( from July to September) for this city’s barangays to comply with the requiremen­ts to be declared drug-free. The city has 180 barangays.

ico “During consultati­ons, barangay officials said they found it difficult to meet the requiremen­ts this month,” said Atty. Gil Pabilona, director of PDEA-6.

The barangays were initially given until July 11 but as of July 31, only two were able to submit the needed documents – Barangay Santo Domingo, Arevalo and Barangay Pali, Mandurriao – on the following criteria: * non-availabili­ty of illegal drugs * absence of illegal drug transshipm­ent activity

* absence of clandestin­e illegal drug laboratory

* absence of clandestin­e illegal drug warehouse

* absence of clandestin­e illegal chemical warehouse * absence of marijuana cultivatio­n site * absence of drug den * absence of drug pushers * absence of drug users/ dependents

* absence of protectors/coddlers and financiers

After submission, the documents would be verified./
