San Beda dominates Mapua in NCCA seniors’ basketball

MANILA – San Beda College Red Lions continued its winning run in the NCAA Season 93 men’s seniors basketball after beating Mapua Cardinals, 66- 55, yesterday at the San Juan Arena.

Donald Tankoua led the way with double-double 11 points and 16 rebounds while Jayvee Mocon added 10 markers for the Red Lions, which tallied its fifth straight win to improve to 6-1 win-loss slate.

n advantage on conversion­s by Tankoua, Mocon and Davon Potts. The lead grew further to as high as 49-24 late in the third period.

The Cardinals, however, responded with a huge run to come to as close as 64-55 midway in the final quarter but the Red Lions was able to hang on to the win on free throws by Robert Bolick.

Christian Bunag finished lang ang with double-double 20 points, 18 rebounds and four blocks while Almel Orquina added 11 markers for the Cardinals, which dropped to 1-6 win-loss record.

Meanwhile, Lyceum of the Philippine­s University Pirates overcame the ejection of head coach Michael Robinson and a gallant stand by Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals to eke out a 97-93 win at the EAC Gym in Taft, Manila.

J aycee Marcelino and Jaymart Perez fired 20 points apiece while combining for 12 points in the critical stretch of the fourth quarter to power the Pirates to a 7-0 win-loss card while sending the Generals to its third defeat against the same number of wins./
