NegOcc free from bird flu, provincial vet says
BACOLOD City – Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena assured that Negros Occidental was not affected by the bird flu outbreak in Pampanga.
On Aug. 11, the Department of Agriculture announced the first case of the highly pathogenic avian influenza, or bird flu, in San Luis, Pampanga.
The outbreak resulted i n the deaths of 36,485 birds, including quails, layer chickens and ducks.
It was confined in San Luis, and the area within a 7-kilometer radius from the town was placed under close monitoring, said Decena.
To prevent the spread of the disease, the Bureau of Animal Industry issued a memorandum banning the transfer of live domestic and wild birds and their products from Luzon to Visayas and Mindanao.
For his part, Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. ordered all local chief executives to support the quarantine measures being applied by the Provincial Veterinary Office.
