Gov’t assures egg farms affected by bird flu outbreak only in Pampanga
MANILA – Poultry sellers are now bracing for a possible hike in the prices of chicken following the outbreak of a highly pathogenic avian influenza sub- type H5 in San Luis, Pampanga.
According a report on “24 Oras”, the Bureau of Animal Industry clarified that only layer farms or those supply eggs are affected by the virus. “Commercial layers

According to the report, 200,000 chickens within
the one-kilometer quarantine zone in San Luis will be culled and buried for three days, as Pampanga is put under a state of calamity.
I n addition, a seven- kilometer controlled area will also be established outside the one-kilometer quarantine zone.
Sentinel animals will be deployed and observed after 21 days for possible infection of the virus.
The quarantine will last for 90 days.
Agriculture secretary Manny Piñol said two possible causes of the virus are already
being looked at by the DA.
“We are looking at two angles. According to our experts, there are only two possibilities
