DTI monitors product standards in markets

-

MANILA – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has strengthened monitoring of product standards in the local market through the Project Execution Team (PET) under the Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau (FTEB).

From August up to this date, FTEB conducted the monitoring in Region 1, Region 4A as well as in Metro Manila.

In a statement Friday, DTI said that some 1,203 enterprises were monitored as of Sept. 6.

DTI is collaborating with the Philippine National Police (PNP), the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) to ensure implementation of Republic Act No .7394, or the Consumer Act of the Philippines, RA 4109 or the Product Standards Law, and Presidential Decree No. 1572 or the Accreditation Law.

This is to ensure that substandard products are not being sold in the local market.

During PET’s monitoring in 1,203 enterprises, 72 establishments were issued with Notices

of Violations (NOVs), in which 7,033 products of the monitored establishments were found without required markings.

This means these products did not undergo testing as required by law.

The DTI vowed to further intensify monitoring of product standards nationwide. ( PNA)
