‘ Make bicycling Kalibo mode of transport’

Bautista-Sucro, who chairs the Sangguniang Bayan ( SB) committee on transport, said using bicycles does not only promote health but also good for the environment.
According to a 2017 study conducted by investigators at the University of Glasgow in the United Kingdom, cycling to work is associated with “very large health benefits.”
Commuters who cycle to work have a 41 percent lower risk of dying from all causes than people who drive or
e take other means of public transport, the study revealed.
The study further showed t hat t here i s 46 percent l ower risk of developing and 52 percent lower risk of dying from cardiovascular diseases, and 45 percent l ower risk of developing and 40 percent lower risk of dying from cancer.
There are 16 barangays in Kalibo. These barangays have two- lane roads.
Bautista- Sucro said the SB passed a r esolution requesting the Municipal Engineering Office and the Department of Public Works and Highways to conduct a feasibility study on putting up bike lanes in these roads.
“I f many c o u l d u s e bicycles as a primary mode of transport, we can minimize air pollution here in Aklan’s capital town,” said Bautista- Sucro.
Kalibo is the home of Ati- Atihan Festival, which i s considered the “Mother of all Philippine Festivals.”/
