Why teachers need conventions and seminars
“To teach is to learn twice” – Joseph Joubert
EVEN if we are called teachers now, we still don’t stop learning – not at all. Just like the above quotation says, a teacher is a person who learns twice. For me, that is what makes teaching precious.
For us mentors to be trusted by our students, we must show them that we are knowledgeable enough of the things that we teach them, that we are capable of doing the things for them to be inspired and encouraged. This is why conventions and seminars are beneficial. These activities are a great help in improving our strengths and skills in our chosen field.
Conventions and seminars are defined as the gathering of people for the discussion and learning of specific techniques and topics. Seminars typically take place over the course of a few days and involve cooperative discussion, multiple speakers, and opportunities to share perspectives
and i ssues related to the topic. Conventions and seminars are proven to be an effective additional learning environment for us teachers. They help us in improving communication skills, gaining expert knowledge, networking, renewing motivation and confidence, among others.
In my case in science education, conventions and seminars open doors for me to acquire more knowledge, wisdom and experience i n the application of concepts. With science
considered by most students as one of the most difficult subjects, I know I need to learn more strategies and convincing methods for me to teach in a smooth, entertaining and nice way. This way I know I can be an effective mentor, friend and second parent.
According to researchers, conventions and seminars must be encouraged by school administrators. A good teacher is someone who makes students excel academically and do well in their tests. Becoming a great teacher requires going beyond the call of duty and the textbooks.
The importance of good teaching is better understood now than ever before and, indeed, good teachers constantly seek to explore new and improved ways of teaching to comply with modern standards.
With the help of conventions and seminars, we can be better. With the learning and experience we gain from them, we can surely help make our world a better place to live in. ( Paid article)
