My insights as an ICT teacher

-  By Cristy D. Deamboy, Palaguian, Maayon, Capiz

FOR THE last two decades there is obviously a huge change in the educational system not only here in our country but in most countries around the globe. As modernization unfolds and history rolls, the 21st-century learning environment has changed so much.

I have been teaching ICT, or information and communications technology, for years now and I cannot deny the fact that this subject is not only knowledgeable but is actually fun to teach and to learn.

Most people nowadays no matter what age they are probably have the eagerness to learn how to use computers, gadgets and other technological devices since it provide comfort and entertainment to everyone.

This is true especially on our youth today, they have all the eagerness to learn these things. As a teacher who teaches ICT I believe that this eagerness in learning is a good quality that one must have. That with this quality one can be able to learn quickly because they are compassionate in doing so. And for this article I would like to give some of my insights and views as an ICT teacher.

Let me start by saying that ICT has brought a lot of changes in terms of modernizing our educational system. Before teaching aids are hard to do, I can still remember the time when everything needs to be written in manila paper, cartolina or in the blackboard just for us to fully understand the lessons. But now with the inventions of power points, documents

and the like everything just got a lot easier for us teachers. In this way, teaching has become easier since students of today are more likely to like these stuffs.

Also, it helps us teachers to make our classroom environment more fun and approachable. There are a lot of ways that we can teach lessons to our students and one of those and probably one of the most helpful way is using the mass media in our schools.

I also like the fact that I can communicate with my students even when we are not inside the school premises and that is one good thing that technology has given to us. I can check them through the use of social media and contact them especially if my students feel like things are not going in their way. But then I know for certain that technology also brought harmful effects for us humans.

Sometimes my students won’t go to school or they woke up late due to the excessive use of gadgets and surfing the internet. And sometimes they even use phones even in the middle of my lectures and lessons and I know this is one of the bad effects.

Well, technology surely has its pros and cons and our role as teachers to maintain the pros and correct the cons. We teachers play pivotal roles in the lives of our students and we must do it by making sure that are doing what is right not only for them but more importantly for the betterment of this nation.
