The voice in the midst of teaching

- By Eiggy D. Yap, Master Teacher I, Guiljungan National High School, Division of Negros Occidental

ONE of the philosophers said “A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instil a love of learning.” It is one of the great adages which clearly describe on a question “Why God made a teacher?”; A most intriguing question which made us to realize the importance of being a teacher.

As marked, teaching is one of the most prominent and noble profession as quoted by so many philosophers. It was anchored on the philosophy that the presently known experts moulded and thoroughly honed into holistic individuals with such aspects developed; social, intellectual, cultural and most of all emotional. Those were the underlying aspects in teaching.

But, is there any times in the life of the students that they mind the great words of love and tears of joy of the teachers? Have they really given a sense of passion of loving the persons who give them light when they are at dark? Have they thought that the teachers are happy of their achievements and felt sad when they missed the golden beat of life?

Those were the attacking yet realistic question that inspired me to continue blaze the lights in the heart of the learners.

The moment I first entered in a classroom, I met students with different personalities, with various modes of understanding, and most all with a unique facets of life. I tried to do my best in making them l earn a plethora of understanding. Sometimes, there were sleepless nights that I had experienced, in order to be ready for a lesson to be given to them; just like a mother rearing a baby for the future. Then, I let them be fed with the vitamins of life – good values.

Moreover, the light of being a professional continue to shine for at the end of the day we realized those words that we said, those actions of cruelty, and those decisions of life. It is just like looking at the mirror and embracing those faults of life. As one of the philosophers had said, “It is through acceptance that we test and reflect our true personalities in life”.

In reality, I indulged my students with the formation of the 21st century skills embedded in delivering quality learning to them. Believing on their capacity to achieve excellence by integrating technology in promoting quality education and service to them.

At some point, we didn’t even forget the real epitome of excellence inculcated in the hearts of the students – love.

Also, we are here in school to create a harmonious rapport not only to the learners but also to fellow teachers. It is through in our torch of life that we continue to act like a sentry of hope to those teachers who are under the deep sorrows of life and to those who need a flame of assistance.

Lastly, our days here on earth will be perished someday but the message of life that we gave to the learners will eventually be their treasures forever. ( Paid article)
