How to teach TLE specializations
IN THE K-12 curriculum, the main goal is to prepare the students for a future that allows them to become competent in any career track they pursue.
One of the career tracks is the Technical-Vocational Livelihood Track.
There are different specializations in the Technical-Vocational Livelihood Track subjects which allows the student to learn the skills that they can use for their income earning means whether it is in the form of a business enterprise or a professional career.
These tracks have its foundation on their earlier Technology and Livelihood Education learning opportunities.
Speaking of opportunities to learn, we need to make them learn how to do the skills that is needed in the career track they pursued so they can execute these things properly.
However, the order of things or how soon certain things should be done should be considered.
We should first tell the students how to do a certain task by discussing each step and how to do each step. We have to demonstrate how to do it so they can see how things should be done.
Then, we can repeat it twice to help the students who find it difficult to catch up.
Then, we allow the students to practice based on how you demonstrated the way to do a particular thing.
Having too much time on demonstrating would take time away from the students the opportunity to test by themselves their understanding of the lesson.
Having too much time on demonstrating would also take time away from the opportunity for the teacher to observe what the student needs to improve on when it comes to doing a particular task.
Some students might want the teacher to demonstrate how to do a task for the third time because they find it hard to keep up or they lost their focus in between the demonstration of the teacher. However, it is too much.
We should focus on allowing the students to learn by doing rather than being passive and having to memorize without doing the actual task. At some point, we need to focus on refining their skills.
By learning through doing the actual task, the student gets to experience the things that people in his or her desired career path do on a daily basis and they get to remember how to do a certain task more. (
