What to bring to travel light

- By Roeyna May Famisaran PN

FOR most women, it is always a struggle to pack light when traveling. Months before our flight to our dream destination, we already envision the clothes that we will wear for the perfect OOTD spots. We buy new shoes, makeup, and bags for the big day.

But after the vacation, we realize that we haven’t used 50 percent of the things we bought and brought. We struggled with the heaviness of our luggage and we even had to pay for the excess baggage fee upon checking in. Did you really use those knee-high boots while shopping in Hong Kong? Or those hair dryers and hair irons when you were in Korea?

Packing light is essential for you to have a more comfortable and convenient trip. If you have struggles in packing light, the following tips may help you:

DON’T BRING TOO MANY PAIRS OF SHOES

Do you plan to wear a different pair every day during your trip? I definitely think that is a bad idea. Shoes are heavy and they consume too much space in your luggage because obviously, you can’t just roll them and throw them into

your bag. Bring your flats and sandals for

convenience. Aside from the fact that they are comfy, they also complement any outfit. If you really want to bring those Dr. Martens boots, wear them during the flight.

BRING THE MOST IMPORTANT TOILETRIES

Pack the essentials: toothbrush, facial wash, shampoo, etc. But do not bring large quantities. Most hotels and inns provide some toiletries like toothbrush, soap, shampoo and conditioner, among others. Some even have blow dryers in their comfort rooms. Contact your hotel for things like this so you would know what to ditch when packing.

DON’T BRING JEWELRY

Why would you wear those pieces of jewelry from Tiffany & Co. while roaming around Bangkok? And do you really need to bring the ring that your great grandma passed to your mother? When traveling, do not bring expensive items. You might not forgive yourself if you lose them.

DRESSES ARE YOUR BEST FRIENDS

If you are going to a tropical country, dresses should be your go-to outfits. They are very simple to pack and stylishly easy to wear.

ROLL YOUR CLOTHES

This is something I learned from my mother when I used to pack for a 1-month stay in other provinces for work. Roll your clothes instead of folding them. It will create more space in your luggage.

FORGET ABOUT GADGETS

When traveling, it is recommended not to bring lots of gadgets. Your laptop will be safer at home. You can also opt for a smaller camera but with great quality instead of the humongous ones. Forget about the tripods. There are too many tourists that are willing to take your photo.

DON’T BRING LOTS OF MAKEUP

Girl, you do not need to bring your whole makeup kit to the trip. Just bring the essentials and you are good to go. When it comes to facial care like toner, moisturizer, and the like, there are travel kits sold at department stores. You do not want your new bottle of expensive toner to be confiscated at the airport. Just bring a small amount and you are good to go.

DO NOT BRING BIG TOWELS,

PILLOWS, BLANKET

Your hotel has them all. Instead of bringing these things, why not reserve the space for your shopped items and souvenirs during your trip? You will save up on space. You will also save up on baggage fees.

Enjoy your trip with a lighter baggage but with a truckload of memories!/
