Lambunao implements border curbs with Calinog
ILOILO – To prevent the transmission of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the municipal government of Lambunao is enforcing a 10-day border restriction with neighboring town Calinog beginning today.
On Friday, April 16, Gonzales issued Executive Order No. 23, Series of 2021 on this precautionary measure.
COVID- 19 cases i n Calinog have been on the rise since last month thus the need to impose restrictions and conduct checkpoints,
according to Lambunao’s Mayor Reynor Gonzales.
“There are also residents of Lambunao who are working or travelling to Calinog for personal errands,” Gonzales added.
The mayor particularly noted the surge in COVID- 19 cases among employees of Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd., the contractor of the P11.2- billion Jalaur River Multipurpose Project – Stage II ( JRMP II) in Calinog. As of this writing, the facility had 45 confirmed cases.
Gonzales ordered checkpoints in the entry points of Lambunao, particularly i n barangays Maribong, Buwang, Malag- it, Alugmawa, and Cabunlawan.
There shall also be no passenger loading and unloading of Calinog- based public utility vehicles in any point of Lambunao, including the Lambunao Public Transport Terminal.
Transport groups based in Lambunao shall augment to provide public transport services from Barangay Maribong to Iloilo City.
Lambunao residents can cross the border to Calinog but will not be able to return to Lambunao until the border restrictions are lifted, the mayor added.
No tricycles from Calinog will be allowed to cross the border to Lambunao.
Private vehicl e s wil l be allowed to pass through Lambunao provided they will not stop at any point in Lambunao and that minimum health safety protocols are observed by the driver and the passengers, Gonzales added.
As of Saturday, April 17, Lambunao recorded 111 total confirmed coronavirus cases – four active, 102 have recovered and five died.
As of April 18, Western Visayas had a total of 4,374 active COVID- 19 cases.
According to t he World Health Organization ( WHO), people can catch COVID- 19 f rom others who have t he virus. The disease can spread from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth which are spread when a person with COVID- 19 coughs or exhales.
These droplets also land on objects and surfaces around the person. Other people then catch COVID- 19 by touching these objects or surfaces, then touching their eyes, nose or mouth./
