TO BE a successful and effective School Principa is no easy feat. One must possess the oozing abilities, exemplary character and extra ordinary prowess. As a principal, one must have the capability to have a course of action to promote the school’s improvement processes in order to attain high level of achievements.
However, becoming an effective school principal is the most difficult and challenging endeavor to perform. This requires relentless passion, commitment and dedication. Below are the skills, traits and attributes that define an effective School Principal:
Visionary. Effective principals provide a clear vision and sense of direction for the school. They are able to clearly articulate their school’s vision and goals to everyone who have a stake in education. They have that powerful and enlightening spirit to lead and guide all concerned individuals or group within the tenet of shared responsibility and accountability to attain their vision and goals.
They have established a pool of proactive and innovative teachers who play the lead roles in educating our learners. Effective school leaders are surrounded with oozing teachers who exude their skills, talent and expertise to manifest their support and cooperation to the school principal to be more productive more engaged and developed to become effective leaders themselves.

Building and sustaining reciprocal family and community partnerships with Transparency paved the way in cultivating inclusive, caring and c ul t urall y r esponsive s c hool communities. It is imperative that school leaders develop trust and create a sense of transparency in shared purpose with teachers, learners and community members.
1. Passionate. Effective School Principal must possess unrelenting passion to generate i nspiration, motivation and excitement that permeates throughout the school.
Passion is considered the primary ingredient for those who want to be successful and happy in their job. But passion is especially important for school leaders, who typically have a great influence on their school’s climate and culture.
2. Role Model. School Principals who lead by example and champion strong ethical behavior will more likely have employees who value and practice ethical behavior in the workplace and beyond. Leaders who lead by example are tremendous role models.
3. Continuous Craving f or Knowledge. School l eaders who have unquenchable thirst for knowledge are great leaders They are humble in their knowledge yet confident in their abilities. They are the most insatiable learners of their times.
4. Strong ethical decision-making ability. It is important for a School Principal to practice the ethical decision making. Ethical decision making means doing things the right way by paying attention to moral values like responsibility and fairness, trust and good citizenship hence leaders are role models, As such, leaders who champion strong ethical behavior will more likely have employees who value and practice ethical behavior in the workplace and beyond.
