Boracay safe, according to world tourism body

BORACAY – The first-ever global safety and hygiene stamp called “Safe Travels” by the World Travel and Tourism Council ( WTTC) has been awarded to Boracay Island.

This s t amp assures travellers that this world- famous destinatio­n is safe to visit during this time of coronaviru­s pandemic.

Also, 11 accommodat­ion establishm­ents ( AEs) here accredited by the Department of Tourism (DOT) joined the growing list of “Safe Travels” businesses.

WTTC e s t a b l i s h e d universal protocols to support communitie­s and government efforts to reopen economies and tourism. The travel stamp is endorsed by over 200 tourism groups including the United Nations World Tourism organizati­on.

The Boracay hotels and resorts recognized for their commitment to WTTC global protocols are Lime Hotel, Belmont Hotel Boracay, Hue Boracay, Wald’s Place, Villa Camilla Beach Boutique Hotel, Discovery Shores Boracay, Movenpick Resort and Spa Boracay, Le Soleil de Boracay, Lind Boracay, Shangri- La’s Boracay Resort, and Amable Suites.

These AEs ensure that the health and safety guidelines issued by the World Health Organizati­on are implemente­d so travellers can stay and experience positive, secure and safe travel in destinatio­ns despite the risk of coronaviru­s.

The bright green WTTC stamp is also being used by major holiday destinatio­ns in the world such as Belize, Aruba, S a u d i Arabia, Paraguay, Grenada, Portugal, Mauritius, Dubai, Turkey, Zambia, Barcelona, London, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Croatia, Egypt, Bulgaria, Guatemala, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Panama, and Slovenia.

In a statement, tourism chief Bernadette Romulo- Puyat said “keeping the t o u r i s m workers a n d tourists safe is critical in the reopening of the tourism destinatio­n.”/
