Police, retired teacher agree to end legal battle
ILOILO City – Patrolman Glenn Garbosa felt relief after attending the hearing of the charges filed against him before J udge Victor Gelvezon of the Regional Trial Court Branch 37 in this city.
The private complainant agreed to enter a compromise agreement after receiving payment reaching P80,000 from the accused cop.
Lawyer Michael Angelo Flores of the Public Attorney’s Office told the court yesterday about the compromise agreement between the policeman and the complainant following the payment.
Judge Gelvezon scheduled the hearing of the plea bargaining deal in March.
Garbosa, 33, faces charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 ( Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) and robbery.
He allegedly extorted P12,000 from Rey Fajutrao, a 65-year-old retired school teacher, in exchange for not filing a complaint for possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Last April 26, 2017, Garbosa went to the house of Fajutrao and introduced himself as an intelligence officer of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).
Garbosa then allegedly threatened to arrest the complainant for an expired firearm’ s license, then offered to help renew the complainant’ s license in exchange for some cash.
Fajutrao said he gave Garbosa P37,000 for the license renewal. However, a day later, he said, the cop returned and asked f or another P40,000 supposedly for the processing of the license.
Garbosa also allegedly asked Fajutrao for P10,000 for his fare to Manila, and the following day again demanded P46,000 for finger printing and another P12,000 on May 4, supposedly f or other documents.
