Power instability

-

THE PLIGHT of Iloilo City, facing the grim prospect of rotating blackouts, calls for immediate and decisive action from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP). The city, a burgeoning hub in Region 6, stands on the brink of a power crisis that could stifle its economic growth and disrupt the lives of its residents. This situation, underscored by MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power), is not just a mere inconvenience but a critical threat to the city’s development and stability.

The heart of the problem lies in the delayed upgrade of NGCP’s Iloilo City Substation. Despite its inclusion in NGCP’s Transmission Development Program, the project remains stagnant. The inaction is not just a breach of responsibility but a disregard for the well-being of Iloilo’s citizens and businesses. Each passing day without progress pushes Iloilo closer to the edge of a power shortage, with the current infrastructure being inadequate to meet the city’s growing demand.

The consequences of this delay are far-reaching. A potential power shortage would not only inconvenience residents but also hamper the operations of critical institutions. The economic ramifications are equally severe, as power instability could deter investment and hinder the growth of local businesses. It’s a domino effect that can cripple the city’s future prospects.

The situation demands immediate action. NGCP must prioritize the uprating of its Iloilo 3x100MVA Substation. The clock is ticking, and with a construction period of 450 days, there’s no time to waste. This isn’t just about meeting a deadline; it’s about safeguarding the economic and social stability of Iloilo City.

NGCP must act swiftly to prevent a full-blown power crisis in Iloilo City. The completion of the Iloilo Substation upgrade, along with the Cebu, Negros, and Panay backbone transmission project, is imperative for the city’s present stability and future growth. Delays are no longer acceptable; NGCP must step up and fulfill its responsibilities to ensure the lights stay on in Iloilo City. The future of the region depends on it.
