Over 150 cops to secure Jaro fiesta
I LOILO City – More than 150 personnel of the Philippine National Police will secure thousands of devotees for the Feast of the Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria in Jaro district today, Feb 2.
Iloilo City Police Office ( I CPO) director Colonel Joeresty Coronica said cops will be deployed to Jaro district specifically at the Jaro Metropolitan Cathedral and plaza.
“Our men are ready to man the religious event. Ang damo man lang tawo ang plaza and church so dira kita ma- focus sang security naton kag sa dalanon,” Coronica said.
Tight security measures will be imposed including frisking in the entrance and exit points especially at the cathedral and plaza.
“We are appealing for public’s cooperation to make Jaro fiesta peaceful. Avoid bringing pointed objects, knife and guns,” Coronica added.
ICPO spokesperson Major Shella Mae Sangrines added that personnel of the Iloilo City Traffic Management Unit (ICTMU) and City Risk Reduction and Management Office ( CDRRMO) would also help in securing the celebration.
Sangrines said there will also be police assistance desks to cater to immediate concerns of devotees related to their safety.
Also, medical personnel along with ambulances are on standby at the Jaro plaza.
Meanwhile, the ICTMU said there will be a temporary road closure in Jaro plaza beginning 2 p. m. today in l ine with the traditional procession. Rerouting will be implemented.
Motorists and the riding public are advised to take alternate routes and refrain from entering the Jaro area to avoid inconvenience.

* Ungka ITGSI/Pavia La Paz public utility jeepneys (PUJs)
All Ungka ITGSI/Pavia La Paz PUJs coming from the direction of Barangay Ungka, Jaro or PUJs from Lopez Jaena Street that are going to the City Proper district shall pass the Benigno Aquino Avenue then u-turn in front of Plazuela 2 (u-turn slot) and pass service road towards Jalandoni Street, turn right to E. Lopez Street and proceed to their normal route towards their place of destination.
For Pavia La Paz PUJ, they shall proceed to Commission Civil Street towards La Paz plaza to their destination. In going back, they shall pass through Burgos Street, turn right to Javellana Street, turn left to M.H. Del Pilar towards Barangay Benedicto, turn right to Washington, turn left to Democracia towards Ma. Cristina/ Sto. Domingo, turn right to Lopez Jaena and proceed to their normal route up to their place of origin. * Jaro CPU PUJs
In going to City Proper, t hey s hal l pass Lopez Jaena Street, turn right to Sto. Domingo/ Arguelles – Arguelles Extension, turn left to Cuartero, turn right to El 98 Street, turn left to Benigno Aquino Avenue, then u-turn in front of Plazuela 2 and pass service road towards Jalandoni Street, turn right to E. Lopez Street and proceed to their normal route towards their place of destination.
I n going back, t hose coming from E. Lopez should turn right to Javellana Street, turn left to M. H. Del Pilar towards Benedicto, turn right to Washington, turn left to Democracia towards Ma. Cristina/ Sto. Domingo, turn right to Lopez Jaena and proceed to their normal route to their place of origin.
* Jaro Liko NFA / Tagbak / Leganes La Paz PUJs
Those coming from the direction of McArthur Drive in going to La Paz and City Proper districts shall pass Simon Ledesma, turn right to Ma. Cristina, turn left to Sto. Domingo Street towards Arguelles Extension, turn left to Cuartero Street, turn right to El 98, turn left to Benigno Aquino Avenue, then u-turn in front of Plazuela 2, and pass
service road towards Jalandoni Street and proceed to E. Lopez Street and proceed to their normal route towards their destination.
For Leganes La Paz PUJs, they shall proceed to Commission Civil Street passing their normal route to their place of destination. In going back, they shall
proceed to Burgos Street, turn right to Javellana Street, turn left to M. H. Del Pilar towards Benedicto, turn right to Washington towards McArthur drive to their point of origin. * Leganes highway PUJs From McArthur Drive in going to City Proper, they shall pass via Quintin Salas road turn left to C1 roadUngka – Benigno Aquino Avenue and in going back they shall pass the same routes towards Ungka- C1 road – Quintin Salas – McArthur Drive to their place of origin.
* Mandurriao PUJs via Jaro From Q. Abeto Street in Mandurriao going to Jaro Big Market they shall pass Spur Road, turn right to Benigno Aquino Avenue and u- turn in front of Jiga, proceed to service road towards Barangay Dungon A road, turn right to Cuartero Street, turn right to El 98 Street, going to Jaro Big Market. In going back, they shall pass to their normal route towards their point of origin.
* Balabago - Bito- on PUJs From McArthur Drive they shall pass the coastal road t owards Balabago road, turn left to McArthur Drive, proceed and u- turn to round about i n f ront barangay hall of Tabuc Suba and back to McArthur Drive, turn right toBalabago road and back to their place of origin/ PN
