Capiz BFP records 16 fires in January

CAPIZ – The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Capiz province expressed alarm over the number of fire incidents here, especially amid the El Niño phenomenon.

Sixteen incidents were recorded in January of this year alone, according to BFP-Capiz fire marshal Superinten­dent Jenny Mae Masip.

Total damages amounted to P1,089,100.

The incidents recorded this year increased by 53 percent compared to the same period last year.

Of this, 13 were structural, two were non-structural, and one was vehicular.

There were zero casualties among civilians and firefighte­rs.

According to Masip, the most common causes of fire were electrical and unattended cooking.

The provincial fire marshal assured that the BFP- Capiz continues its programs aimed at educating the public to prevent fires.

The public was also reminded to be vigilant and ensure the safety of their homes to prevent fires.

Masip advised that electrical appliances should be unplugged when not in use, cooking should not be left unattended, any remaining embers should be extinguish­ed, and octopus connection­s should be avoided. Additional­ly, it is advisable to have the electrical lines checked by licensed electricia­ns.

Meanwhile, BFP- Capiz is all set for its activities for the upcoming observance of the Fire Prevention Month in March.

According to Masip, a kick off ceremony, a Holy Mass, and a motorcade will be held on March 1.

A set of programs lined up for the entire March will be participat­ed by other government agencies and municipal fire stations in the province, she added./
