Today’s generation have been influenced by social media and the use of technologies and gadgets play a big part in formative years. These influences our young children to become more dependent in terms of doing their household chores and as a result, many of our life skills have not been develop and are forgotten.

Many of our children today do not anymore know how to cook food, do carpentry work and even simple sewing their ripped cloths. Edukasyong Pantahanan at Pangkabuhayan (EPP) is one of the subjects offered in intermediate grades in elementary schools or Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) which is its equivalent in Junior high schools. This includes Entrepreneurship, Information and Communication (ICT), Home Economics (HE), Agriculture and Industrial Arts. These areas are geared towards the development of technological proficiency and anchored on knowledge and information, skills and processes and the acquisition of proper work values and life skills (Sarcia, 2019). In order for school children to essentially achieve their goals in life, one has to develop the values of integrity, workmanship and discipline. EPP teaches not only skills but values that are relevant in today’s society.

As our society progresses, children must also invest on its skills and values so that he can hurdle the demands and challenges that he might be facing in the future. Equipping one’s self with these skills and values learned from this subject is very necessary in advancing in almost all aspects of life. Through EPP, school children have a favourable venue to hone their life skills and values and have a greater chance to strengthen paths towards total personal enhancement. EPP develops technical skills that serves as an arm for combating the challenges of life. It serves as bridges towards a brighter future and livelihood (sunstar.com, 2010). EPP indeed plays a very important role in everyone’s life as it is instrumental in making life relevant in today’s society. The K to 12 curriculum has been responsive with the demands of the world as it aligns its competencies not only with the ASEAN standards but of the international as well.
