WORKING TOWARDS TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
The Department of Education is committed to providing support to teachers at the regional and division levels to ensure better performance in their work. This is pursuant to DepEd Memorandum 50, s. 2020 “DepEd Professional Development Priorities for Teachers and School Leaders for SY 2020-2023” where the agency targets continuous upskilling and reskilling of teachers with the hope of better learning outcomes for learners as well as the teacher’s professional and personal growth and development.
The National Educators Academy of the Philippines (NEAP) works closely with DepEd’s Bureau of Human Resource And Organizational Development (BHROD) and the Philippine National Research Center for Teacher Quality (RCTQ) to assist in the field as it continues to support the implementation of the Philippine Professional Standard for Teachers (DepEd Order 42, s. 2017 “National Adoption and Implementation of the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST)”, School Heads (DepEd Order 44, s. 2020 “National Adoption and Implementation of the Philippine Professional Standards for Heads (PPSH), and Supervisors (“National Adoption and Implementation of the Philippine
Professional Standards for Supervisors (PPSS) where professional learning development and instructional supervision and delivery are put into perspective as one of the pivotal roles of Master Teachers, School Heads, and Supervisors.
Strategic programs and approaches have been developed and designed by the agency to provide teachers with the necessary training to enhance the implementation and delivery of instructions. These programs were nationally initiated, giving DepEd’s NEAP the authority to institutionalize teaching strategies and approaches that are deemed appropriate, relevant, and updated to help curb the learning gaps brought about and exacerbated, by the pandemic. The roll-out of the Higher Order Thinking Skills Professional Learning Package in the second half of 2023 (Philippine National Research Center for Teacher Quality, 2023) and the Training on Instructional Supervision are one of the few training packages directed towards teacher capacitation and enhanced instructional supervision of school heads.
