Learners nowadays are so preoccupied with a lot of school work and activities. Aside from their household chores, some students are spending extra time working to support their studies. These oftentimes result to lost energy and interest to perform well inside the classroom. Low class participation result to poor academic performance. Which is why positive motivation plays a very significant role especially on the part of the parents.

Motivation is a will to do or act and work toward a goal. Motivation might be extrinsic, whereby a person is inspired by outside forces- other people or things that transpire and it might be intrinsic where by the inspiration comes from within a person. High achievers, who have outsized stores of motivation readily, feed their needs of a meaningful life (Psychology Today). Class participation of students are affected if they have problems at home or they do not receive attention from parents. Most students actively participate in school when properly motivated especially by their parents.

Parents’ support and involvement mean a lot to children as they need affirmation and guidance from their parents. Parent’s motivation and involvement in their child has a great contribution in every child’s success. Parent’s involvement in their child will develop confidence that will make their child more active in their class. Deitel (2004) states that a parent’s involvement in their child’s education is the single most important predictor of student’s academic success. Hederson and Mapp (2002) added that parents has a major influence on their children’s achievement in social and through life. Parents need to exert effort in motivating their child not only by giving material things but more so by showing support through encouraging words and positive praises.

Children have many experiences that they may wanted to share to someone they trust and so parents must show to their children that they are open and willing to listen to their stories. That way children can be more honest and are willing to get along with their parents. The success of every children in school is not only the work of the teachers and the administration, but with the collaborative efforts by each and every stakeholders most especially the parents.( Contributed article)
