WILL CELEBRITY BREAKUP TREND SPREAD TO POLITICS, TOO?
THERE’S AN interesting trend lately – celebrity breakups. Supposed “strong” and “enduring” love teams now all gone – Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla. Kim Chu and Xian Lim. Bea Alonzo and Dominic Roque. Andrea Brillantes and Ricci Rivero. Sarah Lahbati and Richard Gutierrez. Even Pokwang and Lee O’Brian. Susmaryosep!
Celebrity breakups often reflect broader societal trends, such as changing norms around relationships, the impact of external pressures, and the influence of media on public perception.
In politics, similar forces are at play. Alliances are subject to the pressures of public opinion, media scrutiny, evolving societal values, and political interests. Just as celebrities may part ways due to incompatible growth paths or external pressures, political figures might realign their alliances as the socio-political landscape changes or as their strategic goals diverge.
It won’t be surprising that as the May 2025 midterm elections draw near, political alliances will break, too, and new ones will be formed.
In Iloilo City for example, Team Uswag has been a strong alliance since 2018. In fact, this alliance carried over its 2019 election success to the 2022 elections. Landslide wins in the two consecutive polls for mayor, vice mayor and congresswoman – plus city councilors.
But come the 2025 polls, will Team Uswag remain solid? According to political analysts keenly watching the situation, the fate of Team Uswag will be determined by evolving political dynamics and strategic shifts.
As the political landscape evolves, parties and politicians reassess their alignments based on strategic interests, ideological shifts, or changes in public sentiment, leading to the dissolution of former alliances in favor of new coalitions that better serve their current objectives.
