Pickup hits, plows tricycle; one dead

BACOLOD City – A tricycle driver from Barangay Cabug lost his life after being hit and plowed by a pickup truck on the corner of Hernaez Street and Circumfere­ntial Road in this city’s Barangay Taculing early Tuesday morning, Feb. 20.

The 39- year- old Joel Co was declared dead upon arrival at the Corazon Locsin Montel i bano Memori a l Regional Hospital, despite attempts by first responders to revive him.

According to Captain Dax Santillan, head of Bacolod Police Station 6, they initially encountere­d difficulty in identifyin­g the tricycle driver as he was found without any identifica­tion card or driver’s license.

Meanwhile, the pickup truck driver was identified as Oscar Corpuz, 37, and a resident of Barangay Napoles, Bago City, Negros Occidental.

According to the police, Co was traveling from Barangay Alijis to the Bacolod New Government Center, while the pickup truck was f rom Barangay Libertad and headed to Barangay Mansilinga­n, passing the intersecti­on towards a gas station.

“Sun us a driver sang pickup medyo madasigdas­ig iya nga dalagan, kag wala nya matalupang­dan ang tricycle nga nagtapak na sa intersecti­on,” Santillan told Panay News.

“Tungod sang impact, ang tricycle nga ginamaneho sang biktima, nagisi gid pati ang makina nya. Kag tungod man sa impact kag speed medyo layo pa ang pickup kag nakapundo,” he added.

The pickup truck driver was detained at the custodial facility of Bacolod Police Station 6 as investigat­ions continued.
