‘TB IN BACOLOD’ – CITY GOV’T MUST BE DECISIVE in TAKING ACTION

-

WHAT steps will the city government of Bacolod undertake?

More than 500 workers from various business establishments in the City of Smiles tested positive for tuberculosis (TB) kuno. Grabe!

The City Health Office (CHO) discovered this when business establishments were processing their permits (renewal) for 2024. One of the requirements is a clearance from the CHO.

In obtaining the CHO clearance, there’s a requirement – submission of employees’ medical certificates. It was here that employees with tuberculosis were discovered.

This situation in Bacolod City is deeply concerning. It highlights a significant public health issue that not only affects the individuals directly involved but also has broader implications for the city at large. That’s because tuberculosis is a contagious disease. Its presence in a dense work environment poses a risk of spreading to a larger population.

This discovery underscores the importance of regular health screenings and strict adherence to public health guidelines. It serves as a reminder of the critical role that early detection and treatment play in controlling the spread of infectious diseases.

The response from the CHO and the city government of Bacolod will be crucial in addressing this TB. It is imperative that they implement comprehensive measures to ensure the treatment of those affected and to prevent further transmission. This includes providing adequate medical care for the employees diagnosed with tuberculosis, conducting contact tracing to identify and test individuals who may have been exposed, and enforcing health and safety protocols in workplaces.

Moreover, this situation calls for a collective effort from the entire Bacolod City. Awareness campaigns, improving access to healthcare services, and promoting a culture of responsibility towards personal and public health can make a significant difference in combating such health crises.

Ensuring the health and safety of every member of the community in Bacolod should be a paramount concern for all.

Our thoughts are with the employees who have been diagnosed, and we hope for their swift recovery.

Say mo, Mayor Albee?
