Cops warned vs unauthoriz­ed security, moonlighti­ng

I LOILO City – Police Regional Office 6 ( PRO- 6) director Brigadier General Jack Wanky has warned all police personnel across the region against unauthoriz­ed security and moonlighti­ng.

During a press conference yesterday, Wanky issued a stern warning to his men not to use lower-ranking officers as security details for their children or as dog nannies.

“We are not tolerating unauthoriz­ed security. Hindi ‘yan pwede na gamitin ng mga PNP (Philippine National Police) officials ang mga tao nila mag- security ng mga anak nila at magbantay sang ila ido,” Wanky said.

T h e wa r n i n g c a me after reports that a police provincial director was allegedly utilizing his men to take care of his pets.

Reports further added that there were police officials who also used their men for the security of their families.

“K u n g g u s t o n a may security sila, they would undergo proper procedures to have security, especially na malapit na election, kasi baka gamitin nila police natin for their security,” he added.

He also warned the police of “moonlighti­ng,” as he deemed it degrading on the part of the police force.

“Malaki na s ahod natin, so dapat natin iwasan ang mga ganito na activities. Marunong tayo makuntento,” Wanky said.

P o l i c e o f f i c e r s o n active duty are prohibited from providing security to private individual­s without proper authority from the concerned office. The antigraft and corrupt practices law also prohibits government employees f rom owning companies and receiving double compensati­on.

In 2013, then PNP chief Director Genera l Alan Purisima also ordered a stricter implementa­tion of the ban on police officers working on the side as security escorts for private individual­s.
