Capiz family seeks clarification on alleged hospital negligence
CAPIZ – A grieving family now seeks an explanation after expressing frustration over the alleged negligence of a hospital in Capiz.
May Ann Lavado, the daughter of the deceased Gina Navarra, recounted how her mother was brought to Mambusao District Hospital ( MDH) at 9: 45 a. m. on February 27 after reportedly suffering a stroke.
They were advised that her mother be transferred to Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital ( RMPH) although they were reportedly told by the MDH that there was no available room at RMPH’s intensive care unit.
Upon initiating contact, the family was able to secure a room at the hospital in Roxas City, but they were told by the MDH staff that the patient should be intubated before traveling, Lavado said in an interview with Bombo Radyo Roxas.
Lavado added that they only agreed to have her mother intubated with the assurance that they would be able to transfer immediately.
They paid around P10,000 in hospital bills for the seven hours of waiting at MDH’s emergency room.
However, Lavado said their distress heightened when they were informed that there was no available ambulance to transport the patient. A solution was sought when the town’s rescue team agreed to transport them to RMPH.
Upon the arrival of the a m b u l a n c e , t h e y w e r e informed that they could not depart immediately due to a lack of an accompanying nurse to assist the patient. They reportedly waited again for over two hours.
By around 8 p. m. on the same day, Navarra passed away.
The family believes that the prolonged wait and the bureaucratic hurdles allegedly hindered their mother’s chances of survival.
