I LOILO City – Police Regional Office 6 ( PRO- 6) director Brigadier General Jack Wanky has issued a stern warning to police personnel in the region who are allegedly protecting illegal gambling activities.

Upon his assumption into office, Wanky emphasized that among his focus is the campaign against illegal gambling.

Last month, he ordered all city and provincial police directors to wipe out illegal gambling, especially the “bookies,” through the formation of a task group focused on the campaign.

Wanky admitted that he received reports that the operation of “bookies” still exists in the region especially in Iloilo province.

H e s a i d “b o o k i e s ” continues because there are cops who are protecting the operators of illegal gambling, consequently affecting the authorized operators of Small Town Lottery.

With this, Wanky will conduct an investigation to identify who among his men are under the payola of illegal gambling operators.

The region’s top cop said he will not allow his men to be involved in any Illegal activity.

“What we are protecting are only those authorized and sanctioned by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office. I have directed our commanders in the ground to go against those illegal operations in their area of responsibility. Those who would be proven guilty if evidence warrants, stiffer sanctions will be imposed against them,” Wanky said.

Sources, meanwhile, told Panay News that police protectors with the ranks of captain to colonel allegedly receive huge amount of money monthly from illegal gambling operators./
