For love of PH

ARECENT survey conducted by OCTA Research reveals a consensus among the Filipino populace — a striking 77% of adults express a readiness to stand in defense of their homeland. The December 2023 Fourth Quarter “Tugon ng Masa” survey, commissioned by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), found a collective resolve that transcends regional and socioeconomic divides. With the highest willingness to defend the nation reported in Mindanao (84%), followed closely by Balance Luzon (79%), the National Capital Region (76%), and the Visayas (62%), it’s clear that the spirit of patriotism knows no bounds. This sentiment is particularly pronounced among those from Class D, where 80% are prepared to fight for their country’s integrity.

How should we view these figures? They’re a powerful narrative of unity and resilience that resonates deeply within the Filipino consciousness. Regardless of our regional backgrounds, we all share a common desire to protect our nation.

But what does it mean to stand up to threats in today’s complex global landscape? AFP chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. offers a broader interpretation of patriotism that extends beyond the traditional call to arms. Acknowledging the diverse ways in which Filipinos can contribute to the nation’s defense, Brawner emphasizes the importance of preparedness, whether through joining the reserve corps, training for emergencies, or raising awareness about the deceptive tactics employed by other nations in regions like the West Philippine Sea.

This comprehensive approach to national defense underscores a vital message: every Filipino, regardless of their capability to bear arms, has a role to play in safeguarding the country’s future. From the fisherman in the Visayas to the student in Metro Manila, from the farmer in Luzon to the business owner in Mindanao, the collective effort of the Filipino people can form an impenetrable front against any form of aggression.

The survey’s findings is a rallying cry for action and preparation. In the face of external threats, the Filipino spirit should remain indomitable, driven by a profound sense of loyalty and love for country. As we move forward, it is crucial that this patriotic fervor translates into tangible actions that bolster our national defense and ensure the security and prosperity of future generations.

Patriotism manifests in many forms, and every contribution, no matter how small, is a step towards a stronger, more resilient Philippines.
