Guimaras police pursue multiple angles in couple’s brutal killing
GUIMARAS – The Guimaras Police Provincial Office (PPO) is currently pursuing the possible angles in the killing of senior citizen couple Nestor and Remedios Egaran in San Lorenzo town.
Colonel Rhea Santos, director of Guimaras PPO, said they cannot disclose further details yet on the motives that they are exploring to avoid preempting investigations.
“We are still establishing the motive, pero we believe na ang mga suspects may galit talaga,” Santos told Panay News.
Santos added they are still in search of substantial evidence. She assured the police would file charges as soon as they gathered strong evidence for court proceedings.
“The killing of the couple was very gruesome. Parang may galit ang pagpatay kay pugot ang ulo ng wife, ang ulo ng kanyang husband panit na lang nagatabid,” the Guimaras police director said.
On Friday afternoon, March 15, the couple’s bodies were found already in an advanced state of decomposition outside their house in Sitio Bubog, Barangay Constancia, San Lorenzo.
Nest or’ s brother, Danilo, made the gruesome discovery when he came by their house at approximately 3 p.m. after being unable to contact the victim for two days. Residents reported hearing what seemed to be gunshots on the afternoon of March 13 but dismissed the noise, thinking it was from something else.
The couple were brutally murdered by an unidentified suspect, with the wife’s head shattered and the husband’s head severed, suggesting that they had been shot at close range. Six empty shells from a shotgun were found at the crime scene.
Nestor and Remedios, both 64 years old, resided in a house located approximately five kilometers from the main road, separated from their children, who have their own respective families.
Two possible angles are reportedly under scrutiny: the first involves theft due to a missing bag containing money, and the second relates to a land dispute.
Barangay Captain Alicia Ponce confirmed in radio interviews that the couple have been summoned in several instances regarding disputes with relatives.
However, Santos noted: “We could not yet conclude if the motive was al and dispute. Sige pa aton investigation.”/ PN
