UE snaps skid, dominates Adamson in UAAP volley

MANILA – University of the East Lady Warriors finally stopped its six-game slide by beating Adamson University Lady Falcons, 26- 24, 23-25, 25-18, 25-20, in the UAAP Season 86 Women’s Volleyball at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Saturday night.

Casiey Dongallo spearheade­d the offense for the Lady Warriors with 28 points on 25 attacks, two blocks, and a service ace as they secured their second victory in eight matches.

This also marked the first time the Lady Warriors won over the Lady Falcons in almost five years, or since they emerged triumphant on April 13, 2019 back in Season 81, 25-14, 25-19, 25-22.

“The girls have been working nonstop, we’ve been working at it reviewing the team videos, strategizi­ng, matching up, looking at possible lineups, and pushing the girls really hard,” said Lady Warriors interim head coach Obet Vital.

Dongallo dominated in the end game of the fourth set, breaking a 19-all tie with five straight points to make it 24-20 before an error by Lady Falcons’ AA Adolfo secure the win for the Lady Warriors.

Riza Nogales provided the muchneeded backup to Dongallo with 17 points including six blocks and two aces, while Kayce Balingit chipped in 10 points for the triumphant Lady Warriors.

Ishie Lalongisip carried the fight for the Lady Falcons with 17 points and five digs while Barbie Jamili added 11 points on seven spikes, three blocks, and an ace along with 16 digs. They dropped to 2-6.

M e a n w h i l e , d e f e n d i n g champions De La Salle University Lady Spikers (7-1) stretched their winning streak to five games after a 25-19, 25-21, and 25-18 victory over Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws (4-4).

Negrense Angel Canino led the

way for the Lady Spikers with 15 points on 14 attacks and an ace,

Thea Gagate chipped in 10 points, while captain-setter Julia Coronel finished with 16 excellent sets to go with two blocks to be named Player of the Game.

“I would say na hindi pa po ako satisfied ( sa performanc­e namin) but this is a good start for me and the team coming to the second round pero ayaw ko pong huminto sa naging performanc­e ko today,” said Coronel./
