Taking the lead as the largest pioneer of senior high schools in the Philippines, STI heeded the challenge and is all geared up for this progressive step towards a brighter future ahead of us. After passing all the necessary requirements and meeting the standards of the Department of Education (DepEd), STI started to pilot its Senior High program as early as school year 2014-15, two years ahead of the mandatory implementation in 2016 as required by Republic Act 10533 or the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013.

In 2014, out of 94 private schools nationwide accredited by DepEd to teach Grade 11 students for school year 2014-15, sixty-eight (68) or 72% are STI schools including STI West Negros University (STI WNU) in reference to the recent circular of DepEd, Order No. 42. By July 29, 2015, nine (9) more STI campuses were granted permit to offer Senior High which brings the total number of STI campuses with Senior High to 77 schools.

“As an educational institution, STI is constantly open to changes that will improve the system and quality of education for Filipinos across the country. STI is active in its participation to implement the K to 12 program because we understand that this enables us to move forward and meet global standards of education, particularly with our goal to synchronize regional competencies as part of the ASEAN integration,” says Atty. Monico V. Jacob, President and CEO of STI.

From being one of the last three countries in the world with a 10-year pre-university cycle along with Djibouti and Angola, the enactment of the Senior High program makes our students at par with their counterparts from our neighboring countries, giving them more opportunities and potentials to become empowered individuals who are ready for higher education, entrepreneurship, or employment.

The K to 12 program, formally known as the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013, was ratified on May 15, 2013. Under the law, students will now undergo Kindergarten and 12 years of basic education, comprising six years of primary education, four years of Junior High School, and two years of Senior High School, in an effort to further prepare and augment the students’ global competitiveness.
