A 4-YEAR-OLD girl was killed after she was shot in the chest by her 8-year-old sister as they were playing inside their house in Quezon City on Saturday afternoon.

The police said that Jazzmine Jade Boholano died of a lone gunshot wound hours after her sister accidentally shot her with an improvised shotgun (sumpak) at 2:30 p.m.

Case investigator PO2 George Caculba of the Quezon City police said that Rogelio Triño, the siblings’ stepfather, was in another room when he heard a gun go off once inside their house on Pagkabuhayan Street, Barangay Bagbag in Novaliches.

When Triño checked on the girls, he saw the victim lying on the floor with her hand on her chest and her sister standing nearby, shotgun in hand.

Caculba said that Triño brought the victim to the Nova District Hospital but she was later transferred to the Quezon City General Hospital. However, she died of her injury three hours after the incident.

Authorities have yet to recover the weapon that killed the victim. According to Caculba, the girls’ family has refused to say where the weapon is, who owns it and how the 8-year-old managed to get hold of it.

Caculba said that no charges have been filed against the shooter, adding that the police have referred the case to the women’s desk and social welfare office.
