United Nations celebrates its 70th anniversary at the SM Mall of Asia
As the United Nations celebrated its 70th anniversary, several iconic landmarks all over the world turned to color blue to commemorate seven decades of collaboration for humanitarian, development, and peacekeeping initiatives over the UN countries.
More than 300 landmarks, monuments, landscapes, museums and bridges in more than 75 participating countries turned to the official colour of the United Nations - blue. Starting from the United Nations Headquarters in New York City, other landmarks include The Great Wall of China, Sydney Opera House in Australia, Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, The Ancient City of Petra in Jordan, The Great Pyramids in Egypt, the Empire State Building in New York, the Pisa Tower in Italy, the Westminster Hall in the United Kingdom, and many more.
In the Philippines, it was the iconic SM Mall of Asia Globe that turned blue when United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Programme representative and the Honorable Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario turned on the switch to light it up to officially celebrate the UN's 70th Anniversary along with other countries.
A joint partnership between the United Nations Philippines, in collaboration with the Department of Foreign Affairs and SM, the event, which showcased the progress made in the past 20 years between the UN and the Philippines, was held at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall. And members of the diplomatic corps, UN officials, and goodwill ambassadors gathered together to celebrate this momentous occasion, highlighting the UN's dynamic partnership with the Philippines.
Strong UN. Better World, the anniversary's theme, was showcased an interactive exhibit showing the Sustainable Development Goals ; as well as a photo exhibit of the work of the different UN agencies in the Philippines.
