FVR led golf tournament for a cause

-

FORMER PRESIDENT FIDEL V. RAMOS led amateur golfers in swinging for a noble cause today at the 1st FVR Golf Classic at the Camp Aguinaldo Golf Club, Quezon City.

Organized by the G Men Golf Club, the FVR Golf Classic raised money for a scholarship fund that benefits the orphans of the SAF 44.

Ramos, who is the founding chairman of the G Men Golf Club, said, “It’s a very small effort, but unless we do this, we will not be completely performing our duties as loyal and efficient citizens of our republic.”

The G-Men Golf Club is an organization of amateur golfers who love the challenge and tests of skill and character that golf offers. It is so named because its members, many of whom are retired Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP) men, are “Good Men” who play golf for fun, sportsmanship, and friendship. Membership is open to all golfers who are at least 50 years old and who are not former or active professional golfers, members of the Philippine pool of amateurs, or caddies.

The FVR Golf Classic was inspired by Ramos’ legacy of “caring, sharing, and daring.” Future tournaments will benefit the children of AFP, PNP, Philippine Coast Guard, and other service personnel who perish in the line of duty during combat and law enforcement operations.

The 1st FVR Golf Classic was sponsored by San Miguel Corporation, Mitsubishi Motors, Stradcom, Toyota, and Manila Bulletin. The event was also sponsored by PR Savings Bank, PSSLAI, Air Asia, Philippine Airlines, Air 21, Burger King, Megawide, Hannah’s Beach Resort and Convention Center, EMME Security Group, Precision Munitions, and BSBP.
