KPMG R.G. Manabat & Co. once again recognized as First Tier Philippine Tax Practice
KPMG R.G. Manabat & Co. (KPMG RGM&Co.), the Philippine member firm of KPMG International, has been named once again as a Tier 1 tax practice in the Philippines by the International Tax Review’s World Tax 2016.
World Tax 2016 is a comprehensive guide to the world’s leading tax law and accounting practices. It is the foremost publication of its kind to focus on the leading firms for tax advice around the world by rating the tax expertise offered in more than 50 jurisdictions globally. The International Tax Review is the leading publication on international tax, providing international news and updates, surveys and analysis from leading tax directors and officials worldwide.
Banks and financial institutions, capital markets, regional operating headquarters, manufacturing, petroleum, power and energy, and pharmaceuticals are the key industries the Firm's tax practice advises. One of the most significant corporate tax matters for the firm over the past year was its tax advisory opinion on corporate structuring and migration. This matter involved offering project management processes and implementation (without exercising management functions), taking into account multiple jurisdictions for the purposes of tax residency and corporate migration.
“We are proud that we are consistently named as a toptier tax practice here in the Philippines. We are also very pleased that this year, every KPMG member practice in the Asia Pacific region has been recognized as a Tier One tax firm. This collective achieve- ment is the result of the hard work and dedication of our tax professionals. It is a testimony to how our tax practice is held in high regard both in the industry and by our clients,” said Emmanuel Bonoan, Vice Chairman and Head of Tax of KPMG RGM&Co.
The International Tax Review cited industry veteran Bonoan’s views of the tax landscape in the Philippines. “There is a trend in the Bureau of Internal Revenue to try to make it easy as possible for tax payers to be able to file. They are trying to build up a database that hopefully suits this aim, making tax administration easier as well," Bonoan said on the automation and digitalization of tax collection after the April 2015 BIR mandate that most tax filing should be processed on line or in an electronic form that it will provide.
