OLFU students, faculty join World Habitat Day celebration
MORE than 200 students, faculty members and non-teaching personnel from different colleges of Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU) Valenzuela and Antipolo City campuses participated in the Juan Brigade Program organized by Habitat for Humanity Philippines Youth Program last Oct. 26 at the Sampaguita Dulo, Tanza, Navotas. This community was built in 2011 to provide houses to families from Navotas City who were affected by Typhoon Pedring. As of today, a total of 500 houses were now awarded to qualified resident families of Navotas City. Juan Brigade Program is an activity of Habitat for Humanity Philippines in line with the celebration of World Habitat Day. It is a house-painting activity that aims to motivate and encourage students, youths and other volunteers in nation-building. OLFU is actively pursuing a partnership with Habitat for Humanity Philippines to continuously support and participate in its various programs. The partnership will provide OLFU students a meaningful experience and make them part of the organization’s advocacy in providing Filipinos a decent place to live. It is being handled by the Social Orientation and Community Involvement (SOCI) Department under the leadership of Dr. Mylene S. Abad Santos, vice president for student affairs. During the activity a total of 20 houses were painted. Students from the College of Dentistry also staged a puppet show for the children.
