ADAMSON UNIVERSITY CELEBRATES 85TH FOUNDING ANNIVERSARY
Adamson University celebrated its 85th founding anniversary with a week-long series of activities held last Feb. 11-18.
The anniversary theme was “AdU@85: Soaring with Greatness Towards 2032.” The school kickstarted the celebration with the 7th Falcon Run in the CCP complex last Feb. 11 where more than 5,000 members of the Adamson community ran to raise funds for scholarships and other worthwhile causes.
Officials, staff, faculty and students then attended a Mass concelebrated by the Vincentian priests working in the university with Adamson University president Fr. Marcelo V. Manimtim, CM as main celebrant last Feb. 13, officially starting the university’s foundation week.
The founding anniversary’s theme was echoed in Fr. Manim- tim’s homily during the Mass. He added that the anniversary celebration isn’t just for the commendation of the university’s milestones in the last 85 years but more importantly in anticipation of the university’s centennial celebration in 2032.
Fr. Manimtim also reiterated the importance of Adamson University’s character in its commitment to excellence as an academic institution and to the Vincentian charism as a Catholic university. After the Thanksgiving Mass, a cultural show featuring the various performing organizations of the university was showcased to the audience.
The Cultural Affairs Office initiated the show, which also marked the opening of the booths of the different departments and offices of the university. Other institutional activi- ties slated for the anniversary celebration were the Adamson University Media Award, where Karen Davila won the Adamsonian’s choice award; “Journey Back in Time,” a concert showcasing performances by the various university offices; the Institutional Awards and Recognition Ceremonies; and the Grand Alumni Homecoming.
The different colleges and departments also held their own activities, such as seminars, conferences, festivals, cultural and sports events, in line with the university’s week-long celebration.
While its opening salvo falls in the month of February, the 85th founding anniversary, hosted this year by the College of Science, is a yearlong celebration that features a lineup of activities spread throughout the year.
